At Tricentis, we’re committed to pushing the boundaries of software testing, and our latest innovation, the spring 2025 release of Tosca, is a testament to that commitment. This update introduces a suite of advanced features for Tosca’s cloud deployment and is designed to elevate your test automation experience, further enhance authoring, and advance test automation and zero-footprint execution. In this blog, we will explore what makes this release highly relevant for enterprises seeking to optimize their end-to-end test automation.
Exclusively for Tosca’s cloud deployment
Test data
One of the standout features of this release is the introduction of integrated test data management in Tosca’s cloud deployment. This automates the creation, management, and provisioning of test data, ensuring testers have quick access to accurate and consistent data. By extracting subsets of production data, this new functionality creates smaller, manageable datasets, speeding up testing cycles and optimizing data usage. This not only reduces storage costs but also enhances test coverage by providing diverse test data while minimizing tedious manual effort.
Test case design with Business Flow Designer
The Business Flow Designer (BFD) in Tosca’s cloud deployment is a powerful tool designed for test case creation, allowing users to depict the end-to-end (E2E) process from a business perspective. This feature allows users to model business flows, understand process dependencies, and identify what is important for the business. By mapping out each step of the process and understanding the data needs, the Business Flow Designer helps in creating comprehensive test cases that align with business objectives. This ensures that the testing process is not just about technical validation but also about ensuring that business processes are accurately represented and tested.
Dashboards and reporting
The spring 2025 release also introduces dashboards and reporting capabilities, exclusively on Tosca’s cloud deployment. A new lightweight embedded dashboard within Tosca’s cloud interface provides users with essential quality KPIs. Users can track test execution progress, defect trends, and overall project health without the need for complex report configurations.
Viewer role
To simplify sharing and collaboration, we introduced the cloud exclusive viewer role in 2024. With our latest release, utilization and assignment of the Viewer role will no longer consume a Tosca license. This role provides read-only access to Tosca data, allowing stakeholders to view pertinent information such as run results. This reduces the risk of unauthorized personnel corrupting test artifacts and ensures that relevant stakeholders have real-time access to testing status and results without disrupting the availability of Tosca licenses.
Advanced test automation and authoring in the cloud
Enhanced test authoring and editing
We are also bringing even further advanced test authoring and editing capabilities to the forefront. Users can now leverage reusable test step blocks, structural logic elements, and parameterization for streamlined test creation. The ability to rescan modules ensures that changes in the application are seamlessly reflected across all test cases, drastically reducing manual maintenance. This capability, which has been a game-changer in test case maintenance by allowing quick and easy management of change at scale, whether dealing with hundreds or thousands of potentially impacted test cases, is now available in the cloud, making it even more accessible and powerful.
Module enhancements
The release also includes significant enhancements to modules, the building blocks of Tosca’s test automation. Users can now not only access detailed information about module attributes and properties, but edit key properties, and configure attributes to meet specific testing needs. These enhancements enable full management of created automation modules and simplify maintainability.
Cloud-based test execution with zero-footprint
Elastic Execution Agent
The Elastic Execution Agent is Tosca’s next-gen execution agent, offering flexibility in configuring Team or Cloud Agents fluidly based on test requirements. This new agent is configured to run via the Elastic Execution Grid (E2G) for parallel, distributed execution, and leverages modern cloud technologies to optimize test execution speed, flexibility, and cost-efficiency. While Team Agents can be configured to run on your infrastructure (physical or virtual), Cloud Agents offer the added benefit of allowing users to execute public web or API tests entirely in the Tricentis cloud environment, enabling zero-footprint execution.
Benefits of Tosca’s cloud-based test execution
- Zero-footprint execution: Run all your tests in the cloud.
- Scalability and speed: Easily support parallel execution and enhanced test load handling.
- Zero-infrastructure savings: Reduce ownership, management, and maintenance costs of internal infrastructure and Tosca’s on-prem components.
- Easy access and sharing: Streamline results sharing with key stakeholders directly from the cloud.
New technology and engine support
Expanded E2E technology support in the cloud
We are also expanding end-to-end (E2E) technology coverage in the cloud with the addition of PDF, mobile, IBTA (image-based test automation), and remote terminal support. These new engines, coupled with existing support for web, desktop, and API testing, enable Tosca’s cloud deployment users to cover more complex business processes in the cloud with advanced automation and test maintenance controls.
Support for new SAP solutions releases
Tosca’s cloud deployment now supports the latest SAP solutions releases, including updates for GUI, NWBC, Fiori, SF, and more. This enhancement ensures that enterprises can achieve comprehensive SAP end-to-end automation, keeping pace with the latest SAP innovations and releases.
SAP ALM solutions integration
The spring 2025 release increases the portfolio of integrations between Tosca’s cloud deployment and SAP ALM solutions. In addition to our SAP Cloud ALM (CALM) integration being continuously enhanced, now Tosca Cloud is integrated with SAP Solution Manager. This allows you to create an automated test case in Tosca and integrate it with a test configuration in SAP Solution Manager, SAP CALM, or with both with a single click in the SAP UI. This can also be done on test plan level.
Users can trigger test executions and view results and execution logs within SAP Solution Manager or SAP CALM interface, providing a comprehensive end-to-end application lifecycle management (ALM) solution.
