With the release of Tosca 2024.2, Tricentis continues to enhance our flagship, industry leading test automation platform. Users can take advantage of a further improved upgrade experience, the ability to easily transition to Tosca’s cloud deployment, updated accessibility compliance features for Tosca Commander, expanded automation capabilities, and new updates in the world of mobile testing.

Key highlights of Tosca 2024.2

Upgrade faster with confidence

The automated upgrade process, first introduced in Tosca 2024.1, received exceptional feedback for reducing upgrade times from hours or days to mere minutes. Tosca 2024.2 further refines this process, enhancing performance and stability through the new upgrade approach. Users can continue to confidently upgrade to the latest version with minimal disruption, allowing rapid access to all the latest innovations we are delivering in Tosca.

And if you’re curious how this has gone for customers who started taking advantage of this streamlined process, the feedback speaks for itself:

  • “The upgrade process for Tosca 2024 has been exceptional. It’s simpler and faster.”
  • “2024.1 upgrade was almost like an Apple iPhone upgrade experience.”
  • “We faced major challenges with Tosca upgrades, so I love the easy upgrade approach in 2024.1.”

Bulk transition test cases and execution lists to the cloud

We have also delivered a significant enhancement for organizations aiming to leverage Tosca’s latest cloud capabilities, which you can learn more about here. Building on the initial integration between Tosca Commander and Cloud Commander in 2024.1, users can now bulk transition test cases and entire execution lists from Tosca on-premises to the cloud with little more than a push of a button.

This functionality enables quick and efficient transfer, allowing users not only to rapidly build robust test libraries in the cloud leveraging the work they have already done but to begin taking advantage of the efficiencies, scalability, and exclusive features provided in Tosca’s cloud deployment.

Advancements in accessibility compliance

Accessibility compliance remains a crucial focus in Tosca 2024.2, as it has been for the last several releases. With 2024.2, we are further ensuring not only compliance with the WCAG 2.2 ruleset in Tosca Commander but making sure that the power of Tosca is available to all users. This includes:

  • Adding labels and tooltips for non-text controls
  • Utilizing modifier keys for shortcuts (alt, ctrl, etc.) instead of single characters (letters, numbers, etc.)
  • Allowing actions to be performed on UP events (release instead of press)
  • Allowing tooltips to be dismissible by moving the cursor or pressing the escape key
  • Please refer to the release notes for additional details.

New and enhanced automation capabilities

As always, we diligently pursue enhancing our automation capabilities and expand to support new technologies  to ensure that Tosca remains the leader in end-to-end test automation. 2024.2 is no different and we continue to build on key capabilities, including expanding support for additional key vaults and authentication technologies.

  • Key Vault support for AWS and Azure: Users can fill automation gaps by using their preferred Key Vault providers for secure data retrieval. Now, Tosca tests can adhere to more security policies, with streamlined processes for data retrieval and authentication, enhancing both efficiency and compliance.
  • OAuth for Mail Engine: The Mail Engine now supports OAuth for Microsoft Exchange and Gmail, enhancing security and usability for email testing and allowing users to generate email tests faster without needing to store passwords within Tosca. These improvements simplify the process while ensuring a higher level of security.

Self-healing is a powerful capability in Tosca, and we have now extended its capabilities to improve iFrame support across a variety of enterprise applications for reduced test maintenance.

  • Self-healing iFrame support: Addressing the complexities of web applications with embedded iFrames, Tosca 2024.2 includes self-healing capabilities that improve stability and reduce test maintenance by detecting even minor changes and self-healing, so automation doesn’t break for applications like ServiceNow, Workday, Oracle, SAP, and Salesforce.

Please refer to the release notes for a full list of new and enhanced automation capabilities, but some additional noteworthy items include:

  • QR/barcode testing and recognition capabilities for web applications, expanding the ability to recognize QR/barcodes in PDFs which was delivered in the 2024.1 release
  • Advanced TBox array operations for performing advanced actions with buffered arrays, including adding, modifying, searching, and deleting elements — all in one centralized module for greater flexibility.
  • New PDF testing module “Extract Links” to easily buffer links inside a PDF file without the need to scan it. Tosca automatically finds and retrieves the links for you!

Continued leadership for SAP and Salesforce automation

Tosca 2024.2 also showcases our continued commitment to providing industry leading support in the automation of mission-critical packaged applications.

SAP

As always, our tight and collaborative partnership with SAP to perpetually stay up to date with their release:

  • Every SAP UI5/Fiori release
  • SAP NWBC all releases/patches supported by SAP
  • SAP GUI all releases/patches supported by SAP

Salesforce

We have also added several enhancements to improve performance and test maintenance for Salesforce testing, including:

  • Automation of labels for verification: As a result of adding support for labels, users will have increased stability in label controls across Salesforce release changes, helping to ensure that users do not need to adjust their tests every SFDC release.
  • Performance enhancements: As we always endeavor to ensure that our customers experience robust and efficient automation for the technology they need to test, we have delivered several performance enhancements for Salesforce testing, including:
    • QuickSearch: We have implemented a new and enhanced way of searching for controls, enabling users to more quickly find the desired element to steer in their automation.
    • Automatic discovery: When automating or executing tests for non-CPQ pages, we have now provided a mechanism to recognize that the page is not a CPQ page and then will automatically only fetch and load the relevant adapters, delivering improved performance across both automation and execution actions.

Advancements in mobile test automation

We have introduced powerful new control identification modes designed to enhance image-based automation for both mobile and desktop testing. This update includes new control identification options:

  • Template: Uses template matching to find the best match (this is the default that exists in previous releases).
  • MultiScale Template: Uses template matching and resizes the screenshot multiple times to find the best match.
  • Feature: Uses a Computer Vision algorithm to detect and describe features in an image as well as using those to find the best match.

These improvements enable Tosca users to create more stable image-based automation scripts and support a wider range of automation use cases, especially when testing across different screen resolutions between hardware and mobile devices. With these advancements, Tosca continues to provide a robust and flexible solution for comprehensive mobile test automation.
