Gartner’s latest test automation research, “Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation,” was just released. While the “Magic Quadrant for Software Test Automation” evaluates the major vendors used to accelerate and scale functional test automation, “Critical Capabilities for Software Test Automation” focuses on how the test automation tools themselves compare across 10 critical capabilities in the context of four use cases that Gartner selected as the most critical points of comparison.

Tricentis received the highest scores among included vendors for both the “Cloud Native/Migration and SaaS Software” and “Multiexperience Development” use cases. Tricentis was the only vendor to rank highest in two out of the four use case categories.

Gartner CC Cloud Native Migration and SaaS Software

Tricentis previously received the highest score for “Enterprise End-to-End Testing” use case in the 2018 report. However, this year “Enterprise End-to-End Testing” was replaced with “Cloud Native/Migration and SaaS Software.” With this new use case, we believe that Gartner is expanding its recommended testing tool capabilities to accommodate evolving digital transformation requirements. Whether you are migrating traditional workloads to the cloud or developing cloud native applications, a broad range of testing support is required to sustain reliable application readiness.

We credit receiving the highest score in the use case of Cloud Native/Migration and SaaS Software to three main factors:

  • Extensive application support for hundreds of technologies ranging from mainframe to mobile to IoT.
  • Out-of-the-box test case accelerators for common enterprise SaaS offerings such as SAP, Salesforce and Workday.
  • Recent acquisition of LiveCompare provides impact analysis and improved insights for organizations implementing or upgrading packaged software to the cloud (i.e. SAP S/4HANA).

We’re proud to report that Tricentis also received the highest score within the “Multiexperience Development” use case for software test automation. This use case is a new entry into this year’s report that highlights the growing need to test beyond traditional end-to-end functional testing.

Gartner CC Multi-experience Development

We credit receiving the highest score in this use case to two key factors:

  • Tricentis, in concert with our valued partner network, offers test automation for web, mobile and APIs that can be deployed on physical devices, mobile emulators and for cross-browser testing.
  • Model-based testing support for voice apps and wearables

With growing pressure to automate and accelerate testing for DevOps, organizations are fast recognizing that the manual testing and legacy testing platforms of the past are holding them back. We are honored to be the Continuous Testing solution of choice for the enterprises leading their industries into the digital future.
